Pupils from several schools around Mthatha have allegedly confessed to their teachers and parents that demonic spirits make them feel powerful.
They
said to receive a spirit, a person who is already involved has to breathe smoke into the receiver’s mouth, who then inhales it.
Zamukulungisa High School principal Samkelo Dawedi told Daily Sun: “Recently some pupils started screaming, saying their peers were acting like wild animals. They pointed out 12 pupils who were allegedly involved and the school sent them home, and called a meeting with their parents.”
Yesterday at Excelsior Comprehensive School in Mthatha, a prayer meeting was held. At Holy Cross High School, cops recently confiscated arm belts from pupils.
Police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Dineo Koena said: “Teachers informed us that they were threatened by gangsters called Kalawa and Big Nuz. During the search, police confiscated arm belts from pupils who believe the bands make them invisible and super powerful.”
Themba Dyasi, the department of education’s district director for Mthatha, called on parents to make sure their kids did not carry weapons.
